Catalogs
Catalogs form the backbone of our Library’s content organization and navigation systems. Because our website is digital, there are actually a number of different catalog systems working at the same time. To find content, click through the catalogs by the title that seems to fit what you are looking for most closely – don’t worry about the exact path, there are multiple ways to get to any one piece of content.

Introduction to Catalogs
Catalogs are the backbone of our library’s content organization and navigation system. Understanding how they work will help you get the best use out of our library.
Function: The purpose of our catalogs is to help you find content with specific characteristics quickly and easily. To this end, each catalog holds one, or multiple, lists of links. These links will take you to articles (eg. content catalogs), to other catalogs (eg. a catalog of catalogs), or to both (eg. a catalog that contains links to articles, as well as links to other catalogs).
Catalog Hierarchy: At the highest level, most catalogs link to other catalogs. Once you’ve clicked down through the higher levels, the bottom levels will hold the actual content. This nested hierarchy allows you to click through various catalog pages to filter content by different characteristics. For example, to find encyclopedia style articles about “Inflation History”, you would click on “Reference Content Catalogs” >> “Encyclopedia Topic Catalogs”>>”Economic Indicator Catalogs”>>”Inflation Articles” → and within the “Inflation articles” catalog you would scroll down to the “inflation history” section listing inflation history articles.
Catalog Matrix: In addition to a top down hierarchy, catalogs are also linked to each other in a matrix that allows for lateral movement between related catalogs. For example, “Economic Indicator Catalogs” are all linked to each other via Navigation Boxes. This allows you to navigate from the “Inflation Articles Catalog” directly to the “GDP Articles Catalog” or “Demographics Articles Catalog” without having to navigate back up and down the catalog hierarchy.
Content Listing Rules: Links in a catalog are selected based on specific “listing rules”. These rules determine the criteria needed for content to be listed in a particular catalog. For example, common rules include listing by topics, content type, or use cases. Content may be listed in multiple catalogs if the content meets the criteria of the different rules for those catalogs.
In-Catalog Organization Systems: Once content has been selected for inclusion in a catalog, the links to that content are organized by a variety of systems. These include Alphabetical Order (Title, Topic, Author name, etc.), Chronological Order (Date published, Date Edited, Time Period Covered), Numerical Order (eg. Edition Number, Issue Number, Version Number), Hierarchical order (Department, Rank, Difficulty Level, Priority, Relevance, Utility), Size (File Size, Article Length, Population, Economy Size, Price), Classification or Taxonomic System (Periodic table, Dewey Decimal System, LCC, Internal Systems), by Process Order (Project phase, Lifecycle Stage, Workflow), Recommended Reading Order, and finally by “Editor’s Order” – which is a manual/custom/curated list based on our editor’s judgement.
Catalog Naming: Catalogs are named based on a standardized system. Catalog names describe the contents they hold, usually in this format [topic, content type, and organization system]. For example, a catalog named “China Economy News Articles by Date” will hold links to News Articles related to China’s Economy, which are organized by date published. A catalog named “Inflation Catalogs by Title Alphabetical Order” will hold links to other catalogs that hold content about inflation, organized by their title’s alphabetical order.

Search Functions
General Website Searches
Header Search Button – There is a small white magnifying glass (“🔍”) at the top left corner of every page. You can click on it to open a search bar that allows you to search our entire website by keyword.
Keyword Search Page – This page allows you to search our entire website by keyword, much like the magnifying glass button.
Filtered Search Page – (coming soon) – This Page offers a Filtered Search Portal that allows you to find content by filtering for specific article characteristics and tags.
Page Specific Searches
“Find Text” Shortcut – If you’d like to search a specific page for a unique keyword or phrase, please use your computer’s “Find Text” shortcut function. To do so, you can press “Ctrl+F” on a Windows computer, or “Command+F” on a Mac computer. Pressing these two buttons will open up a search bar that will allow you to search the current page by text.
Menus, Sidebars, Boxes
Header Menu – Along the top of every website page is a Header Menu that takes you to the main pages of our website.
Footer – Our footer offers some key links, such as our terms of service, as well as some search functions.
Sidebars – Each article has an auto-generated sidebar that displays a table of contents with all major headings present in that article. You can click on the table of content entries to jump to that specific section. The sidebar also underlines the current section you are on, to help you keep track of where you are in the article.
Navigation Boxes – Navigation boxes may be available within an article with quick links to a collection of important or related content.
Text Hyper Links – Where applicable, hyperlinks are placed directly into an article’s text that take you to related or relevant content.
Help Desk
Help Desk – If you are having trouble finding specific content, understanding specific content, and/or using our website, please feel free to message us with any questions, comments, or concerns through our Help Desk.
Friendly Warning: Our Help Desk is available as a courtesy to subscribers. If we feel you are abusing the help desk for any reason, in our sole judgement, we may bar you temporarily or permanently from using it, at our sole discretion. Please try to figure things out on your own before reaching out – we are happy to help from time to time, but we will not babysit your usage of our website on an ongoing basis. When you reach out, we will ask you, in depth, what you’ve already tried to do in order to resolve your problem. If you haven’t tried anything on your own, we simply won’t help. It is a last resort “help” desk, not a first resort “do all the work for me” desk.
Content By Topic
Topics in the following section are loosely organized by difficulty and importance – easier or foundational topics appear closer to the top, while more difficult, specialized, or niche topics appear closer to the bottom. For example, math and accounting appear higher / earlier on this list than valuation and financial projections, since a solid understanding of the former are pre-requisites for attempting to learn the latter.
Core Curriculum
Our core curriculum synthesizes highlights from all our content to form a coherent understanding of financial literacy.
