    “Vollbrechthausen” Pronunciation

    “Vollbrechthausen” can be difficult to pronounce if you don’t speak German. Here are some quick tips on how to say it correctly;

    “Vollbrechthausen” is made up of two elements:  “Vollbrecht” and  “-hausen”.

    1) “Vollbrecht” is an old German name, similar to Albrecht, Ruprecht, or Adalbrecht. The V is pronounced like an F (ie. ~Follbrecht), while the Ch is soft, like the Ch in the classical music composer’s name “Bach”.  (it is not a hard “ch” as in “chart”, a “k” sound as in “ache”, or an “sh” sound as in “chef”).

    2) “-hausen” is a place name ending, similar to “-shire” in Hampshire, or “-ham” in Nottingham. It is pronounced like the English word “house” with an “-n” at the end.

    When you combine the two elements, the last name can be loosely translated as “Vollbrecht’s Manor” or “Vollbrecht’s Estate”.
